The Mallala Museum held an exhibition of wedding gowns from their collection during History Month May 2018. The event called "Down the Aisle - Wedding dresses through the years" featured 19 gowns displayed throughout the museum.
Lucy Ann Burton (great grandmother of donor Edward Manning) married John Naismith in the Kenton Valley Baptist Church on 28th April 1864. The two piece wedding gown was made by Lucy of brown silk trimmed with grey silk. The softly pleated skirt fell into a small train. A soft pocket trimmed with pleated brown silk and grey silk trim was a feature on the skirt under which was worn crinoline. The fitted jacket was hip length with a high neckline and long sleeves trimmed at the wrist with grey silk. It opened down the centre front and was closed with metal hooks into hand sewn round button holes. Covered buttons down the front completed this exquisite jacket. An ornamental collar of brown silk trimmed with grey silk completed the outfit.
