The Mallala Museum held an exhibition of wedding gowns from their collection during History Month May 2018. The event called "Down the Aisle - Wedding dresses through the years" featured 19 gowns displayed throughout the museum.
Jessie Kitto married John Bates at the conclusion of their service during WW2 in the Pirie Street Methodist Church Adelaide on 12th November 1946. Her beautiful gown was made of cream satin and displayed a long row of 35 covered buttons and material loops at centre back with a pretty paneling that fell into a long train. The bodice featured a front yoke with vertical pintucks decorated with crystal beads and the fitted bodice dipped to a V at the centre front. A Peter-pan collar complimented the look. The sleeves were long and tightly fitted. It was an elegant style.
