Early in 1950 a group of young women of the Barabba district met to form a women's basketball club.
Mrs Cynthia Barclay was elected to become the first president, Miss Gwen Dow was the first secretary and Mrs R. Jarvis was appointed the first captain. One of the tennis courts at the Barabba Recreational Reserve was lined out and relined to be used as a basketball court.
According to a programme of the 1950 season, the first match was played against a team called Red Reeves of Reeves Plains and Redbanks players on 29 April.
At the next match which was played at Barabba against Long Plains, the club conducted an official opening of the club. Mr A. H. Wall performed the ceremony by pulling a,cord which released a ball and allowed it to fall through the hoop on the goal posts and the ball was caught by Mrs R. Jarvis. A buttonhole spray and a suitable gift was presented to Mr Wall. The match resulted in a draw, both teams scoring seven goals.
The club conducted matches until 1960, competing in the Adelaide Plains Association. In the last year of competition the Barabba team became premiers in a match at Mallala when the opposing team was Long Plains.
