The building has been used to provide a variety of services to the community since the late 1880's:'
- Lawrences Saddlery
- Earl's Fruit and Vegetable Shop
- J.C.K. Reid Fruit and Vegetable Shop
- Several Fastfood Takeaway Businesses
- Pit Stop -Mr. Mick Cope
When Mr Mick Cope sold the business, in 2002, the new owners used the premises for a private home.
In 2007 the District Council of Mallala purchased the building and it remained vacant until it demolished in 2009 by the Council.
The area was levelled and rubbled to accommodate a building which is used as office space by the council. A car park for Council Staff has been located on the site.
There has been consultation with the community for the development on the site.
Between March and May of 2010 there was great activity on the site. A rotunda with seating was set in pride of place surrounded by a paved area, then landscaped garden beds were placed around the perimeter. A low wall built from the limestone and red brick retrieved when the building was demolished makes a focal point.
A ceremony was held on May 24th 2010 with Mayor Strudwicke officiating to declare open for public use this attractive area.
Mr Dean Reid and Mrs Beverly Roney, children of former shop owner Mr J.C.K. Reid, unveiled a plaque commemorating the area as an initiative of the District Council of Mallala. The project celebrated the 75th anniversary of the amalgamation of the District Councils of Dublin, Pt Gawler and Grace.
A former CEO of the District Council of Mallala Mr Colin Dunlop made the official speech and declared the project open.
