An attempt had been made  by community organizations in 1998 to build an entrance to the Mallala Sporting Park but had failed when the application for funding was not successful.The Mallala KESAB committee in 2003 decided that it was a worthwhile project to pursue as it would enhance our well kept sporting facilities. After much discussion amongst the KESAB committee it was decided to seek the support of the Mallala and District Lions Club and they kindly agreed to assist with the project. Lions members John Curnow and Howard Edson designed the walls, submitted the plans for Council approval, and the Lions Club made preparation to begin the project. Five trees were removed from the vicinity and we are indebted to the Mallala Council for providing the equipment for cutting and mulching the trees, and the Lions Club members for a long day of voluntary work.Frost Construction dug the foundations, E. Mc.Ardle supplied the concrete and Elite paving supervised the laying of the foundations. Erwin Smyth was employed to build the walls. The caps for the pillars were made by Elite Paving and placed on the walls by Kesab members under the supervision of Erwin Smyth. The historic tiles were painted and installed by Jim and Ronda Dunstan of Ngapala. On one wall the tiles depict sport in the area, whilst the other wall depicts early historic events and buildings. Many hours of voluntary work as well as finance hae been provided by the Lions Club and KESAB members, and we are most grateful to the District Council of Mallala for providing funds from the Community Partnership Grant.
