On 30 October 1917 when Christina Grace Roberts married James David Dow at the Owen Methodist Church she wore this wedding dress.
The bride travelled from her home at Barabba to the Owen Church by horse and buggy. On the rough dusty journey the beautiful wedding gown was protected with a dustcoat which had been made for the occasion.
Christina's sister Elsie was in attendance as her bridesmaid.
At the conclusion of the festivities, in Owen, the happy couple boarded the train to travel to Victor Harbour for the honeymoon.
The couple settled at 'Warculta', Barabba.
Description:
The ivory moire silk wedding dress comprised of a skirt and jacket with military styling evident in the epaulettes on the shoulder, sleeves and a belt at the waist. The lace jabot and the pearl buttons gave a feminine touch.
The dust coat was made of moire silk with a large collar and decorative top-stitching in a contrast colour. It featured large covered buttons, two generous pockets and an attached belt.
