The Two Wells Combined Probus Club

Excerpt from the Minutes of  the first meeting.

quote:  Minutes of the Meeting for the Formation of the Combined Probus Club of Two Wells held in the Two Wells Community Centre on Monday 15th March 1995 at 10.00 am.

Present: Past District Governor R. Day, Past District Governor D. Whiteford, President R. Dickins, Past President Les Williams (Chairman), Past President M. Wilson, Secretary R. Dawkins, eleven Probians and eighteen interested persons from the District.

Open: Rotarian PP Les Williams opened the meeting, welcoming all present and asked for apologies.

Apologies:  Rtn P.E. M. Goss and Margaret Goss, Fred and Betty White, Mavis Rice, Reg Hart, Audrey Hart, Betty Brereton, Rita and Domenic Canala, Clem Wasley and K. Rienke indicated their support to become members if a club was formed.

PP Les Williams then introduced Rtn President Rolly Dickins who asked all present to stand and introduce themselves.  President Rolly then gave a brief outline of the history of Rotary International and the Two Wells Club.  He then invited members of other Probus Clubs to speak.

Ms Olwyn Duncan from the Gawler Women's Club spoke about her time as a Foundation Member of the Club the second Women's Probus Club to be formed in South Australia.

Probian Bill Palamountain a member of the Gawler Men's Club spoke on the History of Probus and the Aims and Membership of people to a club.  The first club was formed at Catamin in the U.K. in 1965-66.  There are now about 1410 clubs in Australia.

PP John Joel spoke about helping to form the Two Wells Rotary Club.  He also spoke about the Newsletter at the Elizabeth Club.  Members presenting the President with a Bound copy at the end of the year.  Cost of meeting was in the range of $8-10 including luncheons and outings.  There is no compulsory attendance, apologies should be sent.  There is no service work.  A Probuster has the job of raising 10c fines.  Their membership is structured around 60 members at Elizabeth.

PDG Dean Whiteford D9500 a member of Henley Beach Rotary Club for 25 years DG in 1985-86, Probus District Chairman from 1991-94, Chairman of the ANZO Region and a member of the Airport and Districts Probus Club spoke to the meeting.  His job is to liaise between Rotary and Probus for D9500.

There are three kinds of Clubs formed viz, Men's, Women's and Combined.  Combined Clubs have become more popular.

Meeting format is to have a half hour business session, followed by a cup of coffee with half an hour of fellowship followed by a Guest Speaker.

tours in buses are done occasionally to commercial enterprises.

Dean answered questions re finance, administration and trips.

Cost to be a Probian $10-15 p.a. for Administration, Hire of Hall etc morning tea at 50c to a $1.00 and trip costed and organised by a 'Tours Officer.  Some Clubs have a Christmas Dinner.

Personal Liability at $100.000 p.a. Covers members to and from Probus.  Probus news is paid for out of Club funds.  Profit is dissipated by reduction of membership costs or a BBQ of free tea and coffee.
