Redbanks as part of Hundred of Grace was surveyed by W. Smith in 1858, and section 49 was taken up by T. Curan who sold it to Luke Murphy the same year. Luke Murphy died and this land became an estate.

Charles Burney Young, a large land owner and dealer, paid all expenses and encumbrances including interest to become the owner in 1865.

Charles Burney Young had section 49 (containing 38 acres) privately surveyed into 44 blocks and reserved two for roads and one block for a park. He died on 29 September 1904 and left the land to his widow, Nora Creina Young who sold the last blocks to George Healy in 1911.

In the SA Gazetteer 1867 it reported that the township contained a blacksmith's shop, a wheelwright shop and a store and post office, a chapel almost finished and a busy hotel called "The Seven Stars".

The town had a population of about 30 persons. The blacksmith and post office were situated near the hotel and no doubt had a busy time with sore footed horses travelling through to the Burra.

The roads past the town have been altered. There are no longer seven roads so the hotel name would no longer be appropriate.

A bitumen road runs through the town and a few of the very old houses remain. About 30,mostly new homes, are in the township.

The church hall is now a hall and the hotel, school, shops and post office have all disappeared.

The paddock where the hotel stood is still rememberered by a few around the district as the 'pub paddock'.
