 The land for the present park, which is vested in the District Council, was purchased in 1915 with the exception of the portion used as a children's playground which was added in 1931. The ground is ideal in area and situation for the purpose for which it is required, and compares most favourably with the parks possessed by most country towns in the state of South Australia.

+{{Memory|In 2010 the Mallala Recreational Park is constantly in use. In winter the oval is used for football matches catering for adult senior A Grade to eight year old boys playing in the Junior grades, plus all the spectators who come to watch and barrack for their teams. The oval is turfed and well maintained, and the area is lighted from four high towers topped with powerful lights. All grades are able to practice on two nights a week.

The oval is turfed and well maintained, and the area is lighted from four high towers topped with powerful lights. All grades are able to practice on two nights a week.
 In summer the oval is used for cricket with senior and junior matches played. The Tennis Club has a well maintained area of 6 hard courts with a Tennis Club-house.
 Two of these courts are used by the Mallala Netball Club during the winter months again with grades ranging from Senior A1 to 8 year olds in D Grade. It is a very vibrant club. An adjacent enclosed playground, recently upgraded by the Mallala and District Lions Club, provides fun and activities for the smaller children. As well as the spacious Football Clubrooms with a large area used for functions, the Mallala Branch of the RSL have a recently renovated venue on the grounds.  One may often see caravaners breaking their journey and enjoying an overnight stop at the Mallala Recreational Park amidst the rural setting and enjoying the view of a well maintained turfed oval.
